How Facebook's targeted advertising destroyed the life of a young man | Privacy International

Description

If this is true (and I've not particular reason to thing it isn't) this is dead-on-exactly why I've been banging on about Facebook's basic evilness for years (and Google's come to that). They didn't set out to do this, they didn't do it out of malice. They just built tool after tool to stealthily profile their users, sucking up every last bit of information about their browsing habits, likes and dislikes, and reflected them in the advertising they showed, because it would result in the best results for the people who actually give them money - their advertisers. They didn't set out to do this. They just didn't care that it would eventually be a consequence of their software.
